Lord of the Flies
Chapter 8 - A Gift From the Darkness

The scene that I chose was when Simon was talking to the L0rd of The Flies. This was the mopst terrifying part of the chapter because it is a pigs head on a stick speaking as the devil. It was a bloody head that was taking control of simon. If I were Simon I would be really freaked out and I wouldn't spend much time around the head. I felt when I was was reading that the lord of the flies had total control of Simon. He wasn't letting him talk and he was slowly sucking the life out of him. I felt like that this was the scariest part of the book because it was bloody and Simon was slowy dying. I think Golding did a good job of intereperating the lord of the flies into the pigs head. He also showed that the boys are slowly going insane. Ralph is forgetting why he is here. The chance of rescue is becoming slim. The only hope for the boys is to stay away from the lord of the flies and try to stay as on group, not two. I think that Jack and the hunter are going to becoming dangerous. Jack has a lot of agression and the group is becoming savages. I think that they could hurt someone if they aren't careful. Ralph is the most vunerable because Jack hates him the most.

I totaly agree this part is very creepy and scary. It is also hard to understand and very confusing . Why do you think the LOTF is talking to him?

I agree with you this was both intresting and scary. Simon was like talking to the devil and some people didn't get this chapter, but sounds like you did. If the sow on a stick was lord of the flies (devil-Beezlebub) do you think Simon is like "god"? ;]

Great job. You really explained you answer. I completely agree with you. This part was both scary and confusing. Why do you think that The Lord of the Flies is talking to Simon? Why not Ralph or Piggy?
